3D Surface Embellishments

Come for this two day course to study two beautiful three-dimensional surface techniques.

Reticulation will give your silver a "crinkled" look when you heat your silver past the annealing point, but not to the melting point.

Granulation, that you can use for your sterling silver piece or add granules to your reticulated jewellery. No solder is needed for this technique, so the granules will be fused to the surface very accurately. You will also learn the difference between granulation of sterling and argentium silver. No previous experience necessary.

1st day – Reticulation Demonstration
2nd day – Granulation Demonstration

Required tools and materials:

• 4" Jeweller’s Saw Frame
• 1 doz 3/0 Saw Blades
• AA Tweezers
• Solder Pick
• Fire Tweezers
• Center punch
• Charcoal Block
• Ball bur (project specific)
• Gum arabic glue
• Precut reticulation silver 18 ga, 20 ga or 22 ga
• Sterling silver pieces that you would like to granulate
• Minimum 1 ft of fine silver wire 24 ga
• Minimum 1 ft of argentium silver wire 26 ga
• Argentium silver that you would like to granulate

There will also be a demonstration of tube setting and pearl setting. If you would like to try it, you will need:

• SSRT08 Tubing 2.9mm x 2.08mm
• 2.5mm Cubic Zirconia (pink or white)
• 2.5mm hart OR stone setting bur
• 26 ga 3/8" SS disc
• 20 ga round sterling silver wire
• 8mm (or smaller) 1/2 drilled pearl or bead

No prior jewelry making experience necessary to take this class.
