Introduction to Chain Making

Duration: 12 hours - 6 hours each over two days
Cost: $150.00 (plus HST)

This two day course teaches you several different chain making techniques. You will learn 5 types of unique chains including Byzantine (also known as Idiots Delight); which can then be finished into your own bracelets and necklaces. This is also a great course for practicing your soldering! Previous knowledge of Silversmithing is recommended but not required.

Required  Tools and Materials :

  • 1 – jeweller’s sawframe (4" depth)
  • 1 doz – saw blades size 3/0
  • 1 – 4 cut needle file
  • 1 – round nose pliers
  • 1 – nippers
  • 1 – flat nose pliers
  • 1 – 1/2 round pliers
  • 1 – rawhide mallet
  • 1 sheet of each – emery paper (#1/0)
  • Project specific silver

Recommended  Tools and Materials :

  • 1- Butane Torch
  • masking tape

To use as mandrels for making jump rings:

  • metal rods (ex.: knitting needles etc.), various sizes
  • hard plastic dowels (ex.: chopsticks etc.)
  • wooden dowels of various sizes
