Introduction to Reticulation

This two day course offers an introductory look at Reticulation. Give your silver a "crinkled" look by heating up your silver past the annealing point, but not to the melting point. Several different looks can be achieved by varying the flame size, length, its angle to the metal and the path of its movement. Previous knowledge of Silversmithing is required.

Required Tools:

  • Jeweller’s sawframe (4" depth)
  • 1 doz – saw blades size 3/0
  • Hand file 6" half-round (cut #2), with handle
  • Ball peen hammer
  • Rawhide mallet
  • Emery paper (#1,0, 2/0) 1 sheet of each grit
  • Sheet of copper-alloy metal (sterling silver, 14kt yellow gold, brass, reticulation silver), must be at least 18ga thick (1mm)

Recommended Tools:

  • Butane Torch
